Let a vintage lead somewhere new

A comfortable place to start

If a particular vintage stood out to you, ask what else producers in that region made successfully during that growing season. Different grapes, vineyards, and harvest dates can respond differently to the same year, so the answer may surprise you.

This changes the usual approach. Instead of beginning with a grape you already like, you follow a place and growing season toward a varietal or blend you might not have chosen on your own.
